Dog training tips for the Jack Russell breed

Jack Russell Terrier

When considering whether you should buy a Jack Russell puppy or not, there are lots of things you need to think about. This dog breed is very clever, but also very stubborn, and dog training will take a lot longer than other breeds like the Border Collie for instance.

I love the Jack Russell terrier breed, because they’re so full of life and energy. However, some dog owners find this high energy level too much to handle. Your Jack Russell needs to be given daily walks, and lots of intense exercise.

If you cannot fulfill that requirement then you should probably choose a more docile dog breed, as terriers are obviously not for you! People often find that they lose weight after buying a Jack Russell though, so that’s something you should keep in mind.

What other questions do you have about Jack Russells? I find that people want to know if they’re going to fit in well with their families.

One of the most important things you need to understand as a new dog owner is that dogs have a pack mentality – they love being part of a unit (and this makes them happy merely by itself) – and so are concerned with their position in the hierarchy of the pack.

However, don’t feel the temptation to punish your dog, because they won’t really understand. You just need to assert your dominance calmly and confidently. Dogs are very astute when it comes to voice tone and body language, so be aware of that.
